HYUNDAI Greenpia entered Pyeongtaek LNG base as 5000th port entry

▲The President of Korea Gas Corporation and the President of Hyundai LNG Shipping held a ceremony to celebrate the world's first '5000th LNG carrier arrival' at the Pyeongtaek LNG base.

About 40 people attended the ceremony, including Choi Yeon-hye, president of KOGAS, Lee Kyu-bong, CEO of Hyundai LNG Shipping, officials from both companies, and the ship's crew.

The total distance the LNG carrier has traveled to deliver natural gas to Pyeongtaek over 5,000 times is approximately 90 million kilometers. This is equivalent to circling the globe 2,259 times.

According to the Korea Gas Corporation, the Pyeongtaek LNG Base, "the first LNG receiving base in Korea," opened the era of the domestic natural gas industry in 1986 by supplying Indonesian natural gas to the Pyeongtaek Thermal Power Plant and the Seoul Metropolitan Area from the following year.

Pyeongtaek LNG Base holds the record for the longest and highest accident-free period in the public energy sector. Since the arrival of the first LNG carrier (Golar Sprit) in Korea in November 1986, it has achieved '5000 accident-free port calls' without a single safety incident in the past 37 years. This proves KOGAS's management vision that 'safety is the first principle of management'.

On this day, President Choi Yeon-hye delivered a commemorative plaque to the captain of the Hyundai Greenpia, which made the 5000th port call, and encouraged the crew for their hard work.
